Trust & privacy
Your inbox is none of our business.
Most email trackers ask for full mailbox access and hope you don't read the permission screen. Lookt is built the opposite way: the extension physically cannot read your email, because we never ask for the access that would make it possible.
We cannot read your email, by design
Lookt never requests Gmail mailbox access. The extension reads only the compose window to inject the pixel locally — your inbox stays completely sealed.
Local operations only
The tracker runs inside your browser window. We never see, copy, or process any emails you receive.
Completely unbranded notice
The tracking notice never mentions Lookt. It reads: "This email is tracked. Opt out." Your reputation, not our advertising — on every plan, forever.

Never contacted — sealed by design
Every permission we ask for, explained.
This is the complete list from the extension's manifest. There is nothing else.
Local storage
Keeps your sign-in token in your own browser so the extension knows whose dashboard to update. Nothing else is stored locally.
Desktop notifications
So we can tell you the moment an email is opened. You can turn these off in Chrome at any time.
mail.google.com access
Only to add the tracking pixel from your compose window as you hit send. This is content-script access to the page — not Gmail API access to your mailbox.
What we store
- Your email address and name (from Google sign-in)
- Subject line and recipient of emails you send with tracking
- Open events: time, count, device type, rough location (city-level, from an anonymized IP)
- Link clicks on tracked links (Pro)
What we never touch
- The body of any email you send or receive
- Your inbox, labels, drafts, or contacts
- Gmail mailbox API access — we never request the scope
- Data sales or sharing with third parties or ad networks
Recipients can opt out
Every tracked email carries an unbranded notice — "This email is tracked. Opt out." — so the people you write to are never tracked behind their backs.
Delete everything, any time
One click in Settings wipes your account, every tracked email, and every open event — not a soft delete, a purge.
The fine print lives in our Privacy Policy and Terms. Common questions are answered in the FAQ.
